The Line-Up for 12-16-2011

This week's show has some highlights; for example, I have no words to articulate the amount of glee I feel about this week's soul set. I'm particularly happy playing new music that I just got. There are times when I put together a show and want to keep the mp3 file archived for the sake of awesomeness later. This feels like it's going to be one of those shows.

Le Bouef Brothers - Fire Dancing Dreams
I don't know how it came to me to play this at the top of the hour. The rest of the show seemed to come together with so much coolness and energy that I went against type, usually playing a tamer track to ease the show in, and went with something a little more out there while still palatable. This fit the bill.
Nujabes - Arurian Dance
BADBADNOTGOOD - Rotten Decay
I know I have a tendency of playing just about everything this group releases, but I couldn't pass this track up just because they've finally made the momentous benchmark of releasing an original composition. How can I stan so hard for this group and not play this as soon as possible?
Josh Moshier & Mike Lebrun - We Will Go And...
Once I knew what I'd play in this set, this song came from their The Local Colorists EP to mind immediately as fitting in. That's just how my mind works.
Nicolay with the Hot at Nights - Shibuya Station
I downloaded this EP, Shibuya Session EP, from The Revivalist and forgot about it until a few days later. It bends a little smooth but still impressive enough to play on the show and be the seed for this set.
RJD2 - Ghostwriter
Sean Jones - Kaleidoscope
This one is a computer selection that cut the mustard. I made a little set of computer selections.
Danilo Perez - The Saga of Rita Joe
This is the other computer selected song in this set. There's one more computer selection song that survived but that made it to the soul set later.
Booker T. Jones - The Hive
I knew that I wanted to play something from Jones' The Road from Memphis soon since I'm gearing up to year end lists. This album is on my personal list and this track is a clear example why.
David McCallum - The Edge
The computer picked this one but it's stormy and soulful and funky and awesome and perfect for this set.
The Stepkids - La La La
I've spent months trying to figure out how to play The Stepkids on this show, then on my ride to the station, this track from their performance at Converse Rubber Tracks came up and I finally figured out how to make it fit. Also, take note that I chose to play Jonti after this, just as said at the end.
Jonti - Twirligig
Thundercat - For Love I Come
Yet another track I chose to play in the season of year end lists.
