The Line-Up for 1-27-2012

It's another one of those shows where I had only a few ideas of what to do but it all turned out pretty well in the end.

Brad Mehldau Trio - Knives Out
I had to think back to the last time I played this song, not only on this show but in general. It's been a while. Can you believe that Jeff Ballard has been the "new" drummer in this trio for going on seven years now?
James Pants - Track 27
Rudresh Mahanthappa - Killer
I felt like playing something off Samdhi this week. It's good and you should know about it.
Austin Peralta - Algiers
This was actually a computer selection but I was thinking of pulling something from Endless Planets this week anyway.
James Pants - New Sound (Intro)
Lionel Loueke - Karibu
I almost forgot Loueke was going to be at the Carver next weekend. I'll have to make arrangements to be there. This doesn't feel like something I should miss, nor should you if you're a jazz fan in San Antonio.
Aaron Koppel Quartet - Doorway
We had a bunch of copies of Multiverse floating around the station recently so Kory suggested I take one and give this group a listen. The album art really didn't lead me to believe this would be so straight ahead, so that threw me off. Still, this is a good group and a decent album. I'll keep it in my rotation for a while.
James Pants - Menehune Dance
Robert Glasper Experiment - Move Love feat. KING
Do you have this song yet? Why not? It's free at Glasper's website.
BADBADNOTGOOD - Electric Relaxation
I felt like playing some BBNG, they've been on my mind a lot lately and I should hopefully be able to explain why soon, and this was the song that came up in Google Music as I was walking into the station to put this show together.
Mister Barrington - Landing
This song is the universal head nod coaxer.
James Pants - I Told You Man, I Carry A Gun
Feathers - Old Cutler
This was a computer selection that ultimately confused me. I had never heard of this group and I wasn't quite sure if it was truly jazz, but I did some cursory Googling and figured it was certainly fringe enough for the show, especially for the final spot. I may continue my investigation some.

Just out of curiosity, (when) are these new Sunnyside albums streaming on the site?
