The Line-Up for 3-11-2011

I rather like this show. There were some tracks that I managed to lose the night before that didn't make it in this week (really, there was one "oh, no he didn't" track that I wanted to play that would have fit perfectly but it dropped from my memory card so it will have to wait until next week) but I think this week's selections are particularly good. You be the judge.

Matt Savage - Picturesque
The computer picked it, but you know how I am about computer selections. We keep a good library for a reason.
Jason Moran - RFK in the Land of Apartheid
I'm often finding myself coming back to this song. It'll make me stop what I'm doing to dance and whistle to it. It's that serious.
Rudresh Mahanthappa & Bunky Green - Eastern Echoes
This is here largely because it seems like the logical fit for the following track. This whole set was formed around the new Vijay Iyer that follows these tracks.
Vijay Iyer feat. Prasanna & Nitin Mitta - Duality
I am loving Tirtha. Iyer constantly proves that he can do whatever the hell he wants to do with his music because he's just so awesome at it. This trio is spectacular and everyone gets the chance to shine all over this album. It is truly amazing.
Sam Barsh - George Dub
Whenever I'm at a loss about what to do when I can't come up with tracks for the show, I'll search around the computer's library and see what catches my eye. This popped out at me and now I must have the work of Sam Barsh for myself.
Chico Hamilton - El Toro (Mark De Clive-Lowe Remix)
The same can be said for this one. These last two songs may have been some of the best library searching I've done in quite some time. These are some great discoveries for me. I hope you agree.
Gerry Gibbs and the Thrasher Band - The 70s Song
The computer picked this one but I might have placed this here myself all the same. I really was feeling bad that I hadn't had a real soul set in a few weeks. This marks that comeback in spades.
The Crusaders - Last Call feat. BB King
I was waiting for the bus the other day when I realized I don't have to wait for February to play The Crusaders. Everyday can be Joe Sample Day if you keep it in your heart.
Bill Goodwin & John Scofield - Ida Lupino
A couple months ago, Music Director Kory Cook was telling me about this album, Solar Energy, that came in. He recommended it to me so I ripped a copy of it to my BlackBerry and figured I'd listen to it later. I finally gave the album its due attention and I understand why Kory likes it so much. I figured I'd give it some play this week. Then, when I was entering this track into the library, in my research, I didn't realize how much of a rarity this album is. Now I understand Kory's enthusiasm about it even more.
Garage A Trois - Needles
Why don't I have any Garage A Trois? No, seriously? Why?

Mic Breaks
(I went all Brainfeeder label on the mic breaks. At least up until the end when I figured I'd play something a little less known about Donald Glover, whose latest EP has bombarded the internet this week, but did you know before he got really famous, he remixed all the songs from Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise? He totally did.)
Teebs - You've Changed
TOKiMONSTA - Sweet Day
The Gaslamp Killer - Monsterfromtheunderground
mc DJ - tallest
