The Line-Up for 6-10-2011

It was a grind putting this week's Line-Up together but all's well that ends well, eh? I'm not even sure if it's a great episode. I've got doubts. I don't like the combinations. But these shows work out well anyway.

Corea, Clark & White - Captain Marvel
I like that this group is still getting together and making good work. I'll never shy away from playing stuff like this, no matter how old they get. That just means they're growing even more chops.
Madlib - Stormy
Whenever I'm stuck putting a playlist together, I know I can never go wrong with Madlib, especially with Shades of Blue.
Gerald Clayton - Snake Bite
I revisit this album a lot lately, don't I? Well, it's good.
Béla Fleck and the Flecktones - Life in Eleven
I am most impressed with this album and its amalgamation of styles. Rocket Science is a quality album.
Jeff Lederer - Snake in the Blackberry Patch
One of the advantages of being at a radio station is that there are always people around with great taste who recommend good new music. Our music director, Kory, played a track or two off Lederer's Sunwatcher for me last week and I knew it was an album worth copping.
Thundercat - Daylight
When this song dropped on Pitchfork a few days ago, I had my doubts in the first minute but those doubts were quickly dashed immediately afterward. How dare I doubt Bruner.
Chris Dingman - Indian Hill
Look forward to Dingman's Waking Dreams to stream next week at Nextbop. I hope your appetite has been whetted.
Pat Metheny & Brad Mehldau - Ring of Life
This is my favorite song from the two albums Metheny and Mehldau did together. Jeff Ballard went all out on this track. The whole group did, really.
Robert Glasper - Festival
I love how risky this song is. Glasper's Experiment goes through many twists and turns and I love every part of the ride.
Ben Williams - The Lee Morgan Story
I had some doubts about playing something so rap heavy on the show, but the content, the quality of the playing, and of course Christian Scott's solo at the end removes all doubt. Maybe this is a show where I'm riddled with doubt only to have it dashed later.

Mic Breaks
MF DOOM - Coffin Nails
MF DOOM - Horehound
Black Moth Super Rainbow - Raspberry Dawn
Black Moth Super Rainbow - Count Backwards to Black
