The Line-Up for 3-23-2012

The more I think about it, the more I like how this show has turned out. It features tracks from some of my favorite jazz releases of 2012 so far. It features some Darcy James Argue that I'm sort of not certain gets a lot of radio play. It brings back happy memories of last week in Austin. I found a particularly good artist for the music beds in the mic breaks. This is a pretty good show.

Brad Mehldau Trio - Ode
I've yet to hear this album. It seemed to have taken forever for the station to get it, but I'll be devouring it this weekend to get a take on it soon.
Rel - Heart Beat On It
Josh Moshier & Mike Lebrun - We Will Go And...
It was a total blast hanging with Josh Moshier at SXSW. I still think he should have went unofficially, though, but seeing movies at the Alamo Drafthouse all week, thusly cutting out half the running all around Austin, is probably the less exhausting option.
Darcy James Argue's Secret Society - Ferromagnetic
It was also really cool meeting Argue at SXSW as well, who is apparently now a newsmaker and a lover of Texans.
Rel - Welcome
BROWNout - African Battle
The last time I played BROWNout on the show, it was largely because I kept seeing them pop up in the KRTU library and I figured I'd check them out. Last week at SXSW, Argue tweeted Moshier and I to tell us to swing by their set at The Stage on  Sixth on Saturday night. After I saw them, I knew I'd have to play them on the show more often.
Vijay Iyer Trio - MmmHmm
I missed Thundercat at South By! Sure, seeing Wavves was awesome, but I missed Thundercat! Oh also, isn't it a surprise that Stephan Crump uses the bow in this song when Thundercat frenetically plucks his electric bass in the original? I thought that was an interesting choice.
Rel - Public Transit
Esperanza Spalding - Endangered Species feat. Lalah Hathaway
I knew the moment I heard this that I'd play it on the show. I thought it was Weather Report when I first heard it. It took Patrick Jarenwattananon to break it down for me to learn it's a Wayne Shorter song. It features Lalah Hathaway. It goes all over the place in such cool ways. It's my favorite song off Radio Music Society.
Robert Glasper Experiment - Cherish the Day feat. Lalah Hathaway
I wanted to make a Lalah Hathaway set. I'm still singing the praises of Glasper and his amazing show in Austin. No one can say no to Sade. Pick a reason why this song is here; no matter what, you'll be right.
Rel - Running Circles
Portico Quartet - Ruins
Yep, I still love Portico's self-titled album.
Teebs - While You Doooo
I had a little time at the end and figured I'd plug it with something. I'm pretty sure I did this a couple weeks ago with an Austin Peralta track.
