The Line-Up for 7-22-2011

I hadn't a clue what I was going to talk about or play today. Not only did I have a Line-Up to put together but I was also featured on KRTU's Jazz Break at Noon to talk about Nextbop and jazz today. Oddly enough, this all worked out. I feel good about the interview and I feel really good about this playlist.

Madlib - Funky Blue Note
When I don't have any idea what to play, I can never go wrong with a track from Shades of Blue.
Vijay Iyer with Prasanna & Nitin Mitta - Duality
I haven't played anything from Tirtha in a while. It's time to plug up that gap.
Jaco Pastorius - Punk Jazz
Earlier this week, Gilles Peterson pontificated that Thundercat's new album may be the most anticipated bass album since Jaco Pastorius' Jaco. I didn't pick a track from that album but I still wanted to put a Pastorius track next to a Bruner track and let you decide.
Thundercat - For Love I Come
Every time I listen to Thundercat lately, I realize I don't have enough 70s George Duke in my life. If you don't either, Brainfeeder can help with that.
Ravi Coltrane - United
I think the computer picked a Ravi Coltrane song for the hour. I had to switch some things around but I don't question the computer's judgement when I agree with it.
Ben Williams - Little Suzie
We played a Williams track earlier today at noon but I wanted to play one more track from State of Art.
Ikebe Shakedown - Tame the Beats
I can never stay too far away from a soul set and I haven't played Ikebe Shakedown in a little while. Their self-titled release is quite impressive.
Nomo - One to One
Yet another computer pick.
Donald Byrd - Think Twice
I think I like this week's picks because of older picks like this. It adds a different kind of variety that gives The Line-Up some good range. I like to switch things up on the show so I'm really happy I ran with this one.
Marco Benevento - Greenpoint
We'd be remiss if we didn't wish Marco Benevento a happy birthday. Dude's hella awesome.

Mic Breaks
Baths - Aminals
Black Moth Super Rainbow - Count Down to Black
The Stuyvesants - Panty Dropper
Full Crate - Cut the Barb

Friday's Jazz Break at Noon
Christian Scott - After All
Stefon Harris, Dávid Sanchez, & Christian Scott - Brown Belle Blues
ERIMAJ - For You (For Who?)
ERIMAJ - Conflict of a Man
Ben Allison - Some Day We'll All Be Free
Ben Williams - Moontrane
